PC help~

Post by Genoxd »

So it seems my desktop has decided to poop on me, apparently that's why I've been crashing so much. I've been working on isolating the problem and I've swapped out my videocard and RAM with ones I know work fine. So now my problem is down to motherboard or CPU. I'm getting BSOD 101 and 124, I've tried messing with the voltage and other BIOS settings as suggested by many but I still crash. I've also reinstalled windows though that didn't help.

Does anyone know how to figure out if it's my motherboard or CPU? I'd rather not go out and buy a new motherboard only to find it was my CPU. Buying a new CPU would be even worse -_-

Specifics: I tried an old videocard that I know works, an nvidia card and an ATI card. All three crash. I ran memtest on my RAM sticks, the computer wont boot from certain DIMM slots. I managed to run memtest for 3 hours with one RAM stick I know is good in one of the slots that does work but I still crashed after 5-10min of random games.

Every time in the past I've suspected a mobo/cpu issue like you're suggesting (with similar crashes), it's turned out to be my PSU. Do you have a spare PSU you can try?

Hmm I don't, but I hadn't thought of that. That'd be cheap compared to new motherboard or cpu, maybe I'll go buy one and test it.

yeah same for me. I had all kinds of problems with this computer when i first built it. finally replaced the PSU and everything's gravy.

Might wanna do a disk check on your hard drive if you can. If you have some corrupted sectors that could cause some files to fail and crash you.

I have a SSD so i doubt it's a bad sector, I reinstalled the other day anyways still same issue. I've yet to get time to pick up a power supply, but I'll try that when I get the chance.

I have had this problem before... before spending alot of money. first things first, grab some canned air and stick right over all your main chips. If you are like me, your PC is running right and day and that dust is prolly sitting on there hot and hard (lol). This may be a cheap fix to your problem.

Can you even enter into windows b4 BSOD? If so try to see what's going on with voltage/heat/fans with this softwarehttp://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html on your c b4 it crashes.
